What This Tool Does

Paste any multi-line text and the tool prepends a sequential number to every line, starting from 1 by default. You can choose a custom start number, a separator character (period, colon, parenthesis, or tab), and whether to pad numbers with leading zeros for clean alignment. The output is instant and copy-ready.

When to Use Line Numbers

  • Code review: Numbered lines let reviewers reference specific line numbers in feedback comments.
  • Script formatting: Screenplay and dialogue formats often require numbered lines for production use.
  • Log analysis: Adding line numbers before sharing a log excerpt helps colleagues pinpoint exact entries.
  • Study notes: Numbered paragraphs make it easier to refer back to specific points in long documents.
